Work-permit conditions: read the document before making changes
An issued document may contain conditions that matter to your employment plans.
Editorial topic date: July 9, 2026. This retrospective collection date is not an earlier publication date or a historical policy update.
General information only, not immigration or legal advice. Reading an article does not create a client relationship. Requirements and policies can change; check the official sources before acting. Eligibility and outcomes depend on individual circumstances and decisions by the relevant authorities. No visa, permit, nomination, admission or permanent residence outcome is guaranteed.
Read what was issued
Check your personal details and the conditions on your work permit, including any employer, occupation, location or other restrictions shown. If something appears incorrect, look up the official correction process or seek individual advice. Do not assume every work permit provides the same freedom to change employment.
Ask before a new activity
A new employer, altered role or other change may raise authorization questions. Use the current official instructions relevant to your circumstances before acting. A verbal promise from an employer or recruiter does not establish permission to work, and a pending application does not answer every condition-related question.
Keep an accurate record
Retain the permit, employment documents and relevant government correspondence. Record dates and actual work arrangements honestly. If you are unsure about expiry, continued status or changing employers, obtain advice specific to the facts. General information cannot determine whether a particular employment change is authorized.
Preparation checklist
- Review personal details and permit conditions.
- Clarify changes before starting new work.
- Retain official correspondence and accurate records.
