Consultation preparation · January 2026 topic collection
What to prepare for a private immigration consultation
Bring accurate facts and focused questions so a scheduled appointment can address your actual concerns.
Editorial topic date: January 27, 2026. This retrospective collection date is not an earlier publication date or a historical policy update.
General information only, not immigration or legal advice. Reading an article does not create a client relationship. Requirements and policies can change; check the official sources before acting. Eligibility and outcomes depend on individual circumstances and decisions by the relevant authorities. No visa, permit, nomination, admission or permanent residence outcome is guaranteed.
Create a short factual summary
Record your citizenship, current location, relevant immigration history, family circumstances and intended activity in Canada. Include previous refusals or issues rather than presenting only favourable information. If you are unsure about a fact, label it as uncertain instead of guessing.
Bring the records that explain your questions
Useful preparation may include your passport details, immigration documents, official correspondence and relevant education or employment records. Ask the office how documents should be provided securely. A consultation is not a complete application checklist, and further information may be needed to assess a specific issue.
Use the scheduled time deliberately
Prioritize the decisions you need help with and prepare questions in advance. Planned Immigration’s initial consultation is one 30-minute paid appointment. Additional advice requires another scheduled appointment and fee. If you retain the practice, the consultation fee is credited toward the total service fee. A discussion cannot guarantee a particular immigration result.
Preparation checklist
- Prepare a concise history and key questions.
- Include refusals and relevant correspondence.
- Confirm the appointment format and service terms.
