Alberta PNP: research a pathway before assuming you qualify

Use Alberta’s official program information to structure questions, not to predict a nomination.

General information only, not immigration or legal advice. Reading an article does not create a client relationship. Requirements and policies can change; check the official sources before acting. Eligibility and outcomes depend on individual circumstances and decisions by the relevant authorities. No visa, permit, nomination, admission or permanent residence outcome is guaranteed.

Begin with the official program

Alberta’s provincial nominee program is the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program, often called AAIP. It contains different pathways with their own criteria and processes. Start with the official overview and then the current page for a specific pathway; do not combine requirements from different streams.

Compare criteria with accurate facts

Organize relevant education, employment, language, location and immigration information before asking about a pathway. Which facts matter depends on the stream. Having a job, studying in Alberta or living in the province does not alone establish that you qualify or that you will receive a nomination.

Understand the limits of a nomination

Provincial nomination and a federal permanent residence decision are distinct steps. Program availability, priorities and procedures can change. A general information session can explain concepts, but advice about your own eligibility requires a private consultation. Neither attendance nor consultation guarantees selection or permanent residence.

Preparation checklist

  • Read the current AAIP overview.
  • Keep stream criteria separate.
  • Prepare individual questions for a private consultation.
